KLEIN KAROO NEWS - Once again it is that time of the year when people pack their cars and head towards holiday destinations.
As Executive Mayor of the greater Oudtshoorn, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all tourists and visitors who have chosen our scenic area as a preferred tourist destination during these holidays. As always the people of our town and its surrounding areas are eagerly waiting to assist and accommodate you.
Nestled at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains in the heart of the Little Karoo region, Oudtshoorn is defined as a semi-desert area with a unique and sensitive natural environment. One of the major attractions of our town are the world famous Cango Caves situated 29km from Oudtshoorn, at the head of the picturesque Cango Valley at the foot of the Swartberg Mountains. These are the only show caves in Africa offering a choice of a standard or an exciting adventure tour.
Apart from this attraction tourists can also visit our ostrich farms, dive with crocodiles, touch a cheetah and visit several game farms. The area offers many more adventures such as a zip-line, hiking trails, cycling routes and 4x4 routes. The scenic Swartberg Mountain range which has been nominated as future heritage site can be crossed via the spectacular Swartberg Pass and is also the gateway to the famous Gamkaskloof, also known as The Hell.
Behind these tourist destinations, are the genuine and accommodating people of the Little Karoo who are widely known for their whole-hearted hospitality. These are also the people who open their hearts and homes to thousands of visitors during the annual KKNK every April. Come and enjoy the jewel of the Little Karoo, its weather and friendliness. Welcome to the greater Oudtshoorn and I sincerely hope that your stay with us will bring you back for many holidays to come.
